Sam is a Distinguished Engineer at Airbnb, where he leads research, development and operations for the company’s data infrastructure. His career spans databases, data analytics and AI, including senior engineering leadership roles at Meta and serving as CTO for AI, CTO for Data and an IBM Fellow at IBM. He has led major initiatives across distributed systems, machine learning, cloud databases, data warehousing and large-scale data platforms. Sam holds more than 70 patents, has published over 30 papers, authored four books and is a frequent keynote speaker on data and AI.
