Jack is one of the great modern inventors, as well as Professor and Innovator in Residence at Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation at UC Berkeley. At Oculus, Jack designed and built the Oculus DK1 and DK2 virtual reality headsets, prior to the acquisition of the company in 2014 by Facebook for $2 billion. He holds numerous U.S. patents for inventions in software, audio effects, virtual reality, motion control, computer peripherals, and video game hardware and controllers. Jack was the Chief Engineer leading the hardware and intellectual property development for the GuitarHero franchise. Jack’s most recent R&D project, at Black Lab LLC, is a vehicle which incorporates augmented features and a computerized display.

The Oculus story - what an innovation-led C-Suite looks like
The former Vice President of Engineering at Oculus, McCauley was instrumental in the creation the first two Oculus Rift development kits. The Rift is out now, but McCauley is moving forward. He's currently working on a new VR tracking system, which he hopes will solve many of the platform's issues surrounding motion sickness. In this presentation, Jack will share more on how the founding team at Oculus became the VR powerhouse of its time, and give advice on those aiming to match its success in today's landscape.
